Beer Dinner on August 3, 1999
 Craftsman Brewing Company is a very small brewery
in Pasadena. The owner, brewer, and sole employee Mark Jilg was
our guest speaker. Craftsman Brewery is dedicated to achieving
a high level of integrity and quality in its beer. Mark personally
brews, patiently cellars, and carefully kegs each batch assuring
a level of quality and freshness unsurpassed by others who strive
to brew beer as unique as his. Craftsman is a "draft only"
brewery. This means that the beers served at this dinner will
be poured fresh from the keg, not the bottle. Few brewers are willing to try putting oranges or sage in their beers. Mark does it with a subtle flair that is delightful to the palate. Noted beer writer, Don Erickson, describes Craftsman Brewing Company (of Pasadena) as the brewery that, "brews the best beer that no one has heard of." This beer dinner was a great opportunity to taste five beers from southern California's most unique small craft brewery. Our Executive Chef, Leo Villatoro, spent an afternoon with Mark tasting each beer and discussing menu ideas. They put together a menu that perfectly complemented these truly interesting beers. |
